tom- i was not advising anyone to buy options, just saying they should look at them to determine where the strength is in the stock. cable modems are at the same stage as ADSL. however, the advantage goes to ADSL since it is a more deployable technology (the COs can be upgraded today). and i do agree with you about the RBOCs frittering away a golden opp. here is the text of a message i sent to SBC last night: >>First, your investor page should contain an e-mail address for shareholders to contact the company. Now, as a shareholder of several RBOCs I am very displeased by your rollout schedules for high speed services, primarily ones including xDSL technologies. While management at MY holdings have their thumbs up their regulated butts, the cable companies are going full blast to bring out broadband services to consumers. WHAT IS MANAGEMENT DOING?!?!?!?! I originally purchased SBC because of their agressiveness in growing the company. However, i now find myself holding shares of a company that seems lost in the past instead of fighting for the future. What are you trying to do? Protect T1 revenues? If this is the case, I have but one word for you: VOLUME. Think about this: What makes more sense? 1000 customers with T1 lines paying 600/month or 1000000 customers paying 60/month? AND, you still get to squeeze the business users. I don't care what you do as long as you compete. I am well aware of the technical problems in both the PSTN and the cable network, and that is why I own shares of SBC. However, the cableco's are at least trying to get things done, while the RBOC's like this one are doing nothing except trying to delay the inevitable in court and with the FCC which is useless. My message is this: Management had better wake up and get to WORK, because the next time I write a letter to you guys it won't be as single shareholder, it will as speaker for a large group of shareholders that are dissatisfied with the way you run OUR company.
