Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are, and always will be, the United States of America.

As political theater that might be ok.

As a recognition of the fact that the states are more alike (and more mixed within the states) than many of the "red state/blue state" comments we see, its reasonable.

But taken as a whole the statement is silly. Voting for Obama doesn't make the country less divided in terms of political ideology or indicate it is less divided in those terms, then voting for McCain would mean. The events of last night (or "tonight" as he was saying them, don't logically lead to his conclusion.
