The Bush speech came on while I was catching up with thread posting. I agree. Very gracious.

However, back to a different Bush. I've been reading Woodward's War Within book. A fascinating Pelosi story. Just after the 06 election with Pelosi and Reid in the leadership and Bush having announced the surge, Pelosi and Bush have one meeting about how to govern and a second meeting before some sort of moment in the House. Conflating the two moments, Pelosi says she talked to Bush that they needed to reach some sort of consensus about Iraq. The Dems were elected to end the war and Bush had announced a surge. Pelosi said, we need to find some common ground.

Bush said, in the first occasion at the WH, that everyone knew his views so there was no need to talk. In the second occasion, he said common ground was the House and the Senate agreeing to fund the troops.

So much for consensus. Hopefully, Obama will know how to listen.
