IMO, this has always been a bad argument.

It's kind of like saying to a smoker that every doctor/surgeon that treated and cured lung cancer caused a difficult recovery period and/or significant side effects.

Criticizing them only makes sense if the doctors/surgeons were also recommending that people smoke before they got ill.

The opposite is true of the Austrians. They are telling governments not to smoke and how to save themselves if they already did and got cancer. Those that have power now (and Keynes himself) try to treat the cancer with pain killers that give temporary relief while it spreads.
