Secretary of State issues election results

Republican presidential candidate John McCain won Missouri in Tuesday’s election, but by a razor-thin margin, final election results issued by the Missouri Secretary of State indicated.

That converts to 49.4 percent of the turnout for McCain, compared to 49.2 percent for Obama.

In the race for governor, Democrat Jay Nixon received 1,675,270 votes to 1,133,779 votes for Republican Kenny Hulshof. Nixon’s margin of victory was 58.4 percent.

The race for lieutenant governor ended with incumbent Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder retaining his post with 1,400,625 votes, or 49.9 percent of the turnout compared to Democrat Sam Page, who received 1,326,591 votes.

The race for attorney general ended with Democrat Christ Koster garnering 1,466,738 votes, or 52.8 percent of the turnout compared to 1,309,727 votes for Republican Mike Gibbons.
