I am a moderate myself and am glad the dems did not win more congressional seats.

However, the damage done by this republican administration cannot be understated.

The thing to remember (for me) is that republicans have boxed themselves into such a regional and ideological fringe that allowing 50% of the congressional votes to go the republican way is actually, in the general scheme of things, an extreme right position. Some senators like Inhofe and Stevens literally block EVERY alternative energy initiative. things like tax cuts for the hugest gas guzzlers is an amazing lapse of leadership and thats what we got these past few years. Way way way to extreme.

With the dems in power, you actually have most of what actually used to be the republican fiscal position with the blue dogs. The dems actually govern from the center these days.

Some issues like healthcare have to be addressed for the fiscal health of the country. Some wingers are characterizing these things as discretionary spending or something.
