Granted, it's not something the left EVER did with George Bush or Ronald Reagan.

Like any other generality, there are exceptions. But I think that people on the right are much more optimistic than those on the left.

It's the way to be. Optimistic people live longer and prosper better.

Lindy,

I think that Optimism is part of the equation. I'd also opine that much of the appeal of liberalism is directed to folks who view themselves as victims; they feel that they have no control over their own lives or outlook. Their predicament is the fault of others. They look to government as the solution to their own inadequacies.

Conversely, conservatives tend to take responsibility for their own lives and happiness. They view government as more of an intrusion than a solution. Hence conservatives will do well despite oppressive taxes or regulation.

Another corollary: At the hearty of conservatism is the core belief in the unlimited potential of the human individual. There is an expectation that anyone can succeed. Liberals ( and including the very successful ones) believe that most individuals are incapable of succeeding on their own without government intervention. These folk require "help" to succeed. In reality it is the liberals who are prejudiced...
