This is absolutely correct IMO, and it is as-designed.

While some people see him as a left-center guy, many see him as an extremist. It really depends on how one chooses to interpret the available facts, and those facts have been carefully constructed so as to be ambiguous.

I'm certainly willing to give the man a chance to prove he is not an extremist, since he was duly elected according to the process that has worked for years. But I'm not encouraged at the idea of Rahm Emanuel as Chief of Staff, as that is strongly suggestive that an extremist agenda is likely to unfold. There are much more qualified, less-partisan people around who could do that most important job. If he ends up with Emanuel as Chief of Staff, I think it will be a strong indication that he has no plan to stick with centrist positions he has taken during the general election. Which will disappoint, but not surprise me.
