Polls consistently showed that, if the rest of the world could vote, the Illinois Democrat would win not by a landslide, but an avalanche.

Bah...biased journalism

In Italy, a right-wing senator, Maurizio Gasparri, provoked a nasty domestic spat when he suggested that Obama would be soft on terrorism and that "with Obama in the White House, perhaps Al Qaeda is happier." The Italian left immediately called on Gasparri to apologize to Americans for his comments.

Unfortunately, I am concerned that Maurizio is right. I hope he's wrong, but I think he isn't.

We'll know soon enough. If Obama will prevent further attacks against us during the next four years as Bush has during the last seven, I would say many of us will feel he's done well. While there are many other considerations, this is key.

As long as he doesn't go on a leftist binge and follow through with his socialist agenda, if he protects America I think he will be thought of well.

If we are attacked, he has a huge problem -- not only for allowing it to happen on his watch, but in trying to deal with it effectively while living up to the unrealistic expectations of American voters and these other countries who are so impressed today.
