I think the media does get it but I think they sensationalize the news to instill fear in individual investors and viewers.

I think anyone with significant stock holdings or a recent mortgage doesn't need the media to be afraid. Their assets are 2/3rds of what they were 5 months ago, and/or their home (the most valuable thing they own) is in a similar pattern. It's like the whole country went to Vegas, bet 100x what they normally would bet, and lost (except for the shorts, who are the guys playing the 'don't come' line in craps). The whole country lost like 6 months salary instead of a few days salary. The numbers are scary, and have little to do with whether the player watches TV or not.
