well if it is going to go 20 mph through most of the peninsula, which is what is required through the san jose area, sunnyvale downtown near sunnyvale town center, then mtn view, PA, RWC, Burlingame and the like, then what is the advantage to high speed rail? Thats the entire peninsula where it needs to go 20MPH. If it is going to go 100 MPH there, thats too fast, unless it is underground.

You just can't build high speed electric rail through residential towns - europe knows it, japan knows it. California will find that out, but it will take 50 million to do so.

The san jose area would have been a spoke in the original plan, which would have been ok. Not great but ok.

I just don't think they will gain much traction going through Larry Ellisons and Meg Whitmans backyards, personally. There are something like 10 environmental lawsuits, cities suing etc. They have to clear all that up before they even start.
