TOKYO- Sumitomo Metal Mining said on Wednesday it may delay the start of its Taganito nickel project in the Philippines to explore the possibility of securing materials and labour at lower costs following the financial crisis.

The company was planning to finish a feasibility study on the project to build a 30 000 t/y nickel plant jointly with Philippines' Taganito Mining Corp by the autumn, and begin construction of the plant in 2009.
Sumitomo Metal, however, will stick to its midterm plan to nearly double its nickel output capacity to 100 000 t/y by 2013, the company said.
