Ahh, here's the rub, Joe: "... the press coverage..."

Bill Moyers wrote about six months ago that 80 (90?) percent of all investigative reporters have been let go, nationwide. My own paper in Seattle is starting to resemble the newspaper in Ellensburg. Never heard of it? It's fairly small. This past week, the Seattle Times said it would be letting go (one way or another) another 150, about 10% of the remaining workforce which has been shrunken several times in recent years.

The mouthpieces of the likes or Murdoch don't want any digging that's relevant. And the newspaper industry has been royally squeezed by the collapse in advertising revenue (largely caused by Craig's List).

With today's entitlement society, I expect the regression in thoughtful reporting to continue to decline, because the revenues just aren't there, and too many people are satisfied to get form their opinion based on a slanderous political ad or a rumor blog.
