The parallels to today are remarkable.

Yes they are. Rand's "heir," Leonard Peikoff, wrote a book about what we are doing, comparing it to Hitler's Germany. He called the book, "The Ominous Parallels."

I have read both it and and Jonah Goldberg's book on this, called "Liberal Fascism." Jonah's is the best of the two, because it compares it to Wilson's administration with the original rise of the Progressives that resulted in a Fascist regime from 1918 to 1920.

It's interesting that today's left prefers "Progressive" to "Liberal" as a label. That's because people in this country know nothing about what happened under Wilson. [Why? Our historians have spiked it because it reflects poorly on the left. When they do talk about it, it's as if the Right was responsible for "The Palmer Raids" and the WWI newspaper censorship.] But they do have a negative opinion about the term "Liberal."

Ayn came out of Russia and always thought of it in terms of communism. If you call something the Left does "Fascist," the average person thinks you are a nut.
