We have an unspoken rule in our family to not discuss politics in the sense of trying to shape each other's opinions. It may sound odd but has worked out such that I seldom know who my children vote for in national elections.

As of last night, each of my three children who voted (the youngest never got registered in NYC) called for the first time ever to say who they voted for....Obama. Each is ultra-religious and live in red states (CO, UT, and OK). Each had different reasons for their votes. It was quite interesting. The phone calls were long....one lasted 2 hours.....and I ended up learning new things about my kids.
