Very few people earned over $100k dollars in 1954. Dollars where worth more, and real income per person was lower.

Also there where all sorts of loopholes. And at those rates people had a massive incentive to use them. A lesser point is that your rates where for "married filing separately), for "head of household" you would pay 83 percent at 100k.

But even with the points I point out above such high rates where harmful.
