Very difficult to spend what you DON'T HAVE --- especially once others decide they are no longer willing to lend to you on favorable terms. (In some ways we are probably fortunate that there is currently a MASSIVE GLOBAL FINANCIAL PANIC going on - and it's associated "flight to safety" in the Dollar. Needing to issue a Trillion of so in new federal debt over the coming months, we should take advantage of this - most likely temporary and unsustainable - global demand for Treasury debt... and SELL THE HELL out of new federal debt....) For this condition will not last all that long. Once the PANIC condition is over... the world will be far less willing to lend to America on such good terms.
