Part of supporting manufacturers is so that they survive and continue to produce. Bad idea. If you keep companies alive that don't have the support of the market you directly waste resouces that could better be used elsewhere and indirectly create incentives to focus on rent seeking rather than profitable investment and production. Those who push around pieces of paper in secret markets don't create wealth Finance helps match capital up with the need for capital. Without it "those who make things or service things that other people find valuable" have less ability to do so. Or looked at another way this matching function itself is a service that people find useful.
