I respect your posts and thoughts so... perhaps I dismissed Sullivan too quickly. And I admit I dismissed him rather quickly. I'll pay more attention. I know he has some keen thoughts to share.

I came of voting age in the late 70's. Raised by very old-style republicans, and raised to not carry on old thoughts of Texas days. But raised to watch money. It was the days when the so-called 'moral majority' was starting to spout on the repub side. But the dems spent too much money and I thought unwisely. so what to do? oh, and being gay... it wasn't difficult for me. I registered indepenent, always hoping I could work with dems, who social, to me, hearts are in the right place to spend more wisely and prudently. I can't understand joining a party that I have to spend time calling on their bigotry. I think Sullivan's time could have been better spent. And maybe it will be in the future.

And maybe it is that he is not from the U.S. ... perhaps he doesn't realize that from the day LBJ signed the civil rights act... the Republicans, by choice, became the party of bigots. That's just how it is. If they are to rise beyond that... the bigots need to get a tiny 3rd party. At least in 2008 it will be a tiny party, not the size it was in '72 under Wallace.
