Nigel, our dear over-the-ponder... Harvard is not actual America. And my nephew is at Yale now, after Dartmouth. He considered Harvard, but we prefer the theology folk at Yale. anyways... point is... you don't quite learn American history at Harvard. No offence.

Oxford, tho? wowsa. The newphew wants to spend time there. I would have about died to spend time there, or just to sniff the books for a few minutes. :)

You have to drive around the country, tho. get down into the heart and essence of it. Just like learning about Britian takes perhaps visiting Liverpool and various places.

>>And maybe it is that he is not from the U.S<<

He studied history at Oxford and Harvard, so I doubt it.<<

Koan: "I wasn't referring to that part of her post. I should have made that clear. I like Andrew Sullivan. Althugh I do consider him to be misguided.

And I do agree with chooseanother that the Republcian party has been the party of bigots for a long time. And the Republican party has never had any REAL values or ideas I agreed with.

They have been the sleezy party for as long as I have been alive.

In my opinion-lol.

So I also have no understanding why Sullivan is a Republican? I do not think anyone can defend the republican party of the last 60 years. From the Macarthy era, through Nixon and onto REagan and bush. Sleezy and wrongheaded IMO.
