The second half of 98 is murky indeed. I share the same concerns stated( and sometimes overstated) here regarding DRAM and certain other commodity chips profitability. This is conterbalanced by unit shipments up and projected to contimue up, but at some juncture the red ink has to impact somewhere. Lets say for example Micron folds. Someone healthier comes in and buys the fabs, and this is equipment not sold by amat and others. So if I was a trader I would be concerned about the present P/E's which are relying on a fairly "goldilocks" scenario going forward. Longer term I still see a no-brainer as the Information Age unfolds. I often quote the 15 year >40% CAGR, but this period is marked by massive upswings and downswings, thats why I never try to time anything in these volatile waters.
