I agree with everything you said, Sam. All pork isn't bad, and O will likely try to keep Congress under control better than lazy Bush. It's just that there's an entrenched system of gaining votes for passage of a bill by letting Congresspeople attach unrelated stuff to that bill.

I can put up with the pork, however, if legislation will get passed that hasn't been watered down or compromised in such a way that it's toothless.

Sure there will be pork, but frankly, in the grand scheme of things, that issue is way overdone. It is practically nothing compared to medical and defense costs.

That it doesn't cost much does not make it acceptable. Pork is the graffiti on the walls of Congress. It's the leg-up to larger abuses.
