obama will prove to be a piece of cake, i figure

if he focuses at all on foreign affairs, domestic construct will fall apart

i believe he will phuck up both foreign and domestic matters

because the wastrel is put in place by the unthinking and panic stricken mob electorates, overwhelmingly yet

time will tell

Your ideas about Russia seem mostly correct and it is interesting to hear views from someone with on the ground experience.

This article has some trade statistics between Russia and Germany.

iht.com

The article states

"Attendees oozed confidence that, despite the August war in Georgia and the gathering storm in world finance, Russia and Germany would only deepen their centuries-old bonds, perhaps even realizing the dream long held by some of binding Russia closer to the West."

but seems to ignore that Germany and Russia have never really enjoyed much of a friendly, collaborative partnership in the past century.

Germany does not have the will to stand up to Russia and the US should not expect much. In my opinion, the Germans are playing a game of self delusion hoping that things will be different this time.
