"But obviously extensive intervention is what we have now"

Do you not recognize that this is your opinion? Extensive intervention based on what criteria? It is pretty obvious that the financial meltdown was caused by lack of government intervention in the secretive credit markets.

That may have necessitated government intervention...who knows.

Do you want no government bailout of AIG, Fannie/Freddie, BS, GM, etc? I was against the bailout and think that Paulson seems to be in order his head. I don't know if we needed the bailout because there is still no transparency to the system.

Maybe we needed some of the bailout but not other parts...who knows. I'm pretty sure that extortion is part of the bailout.

If the government was the main grabber of power then why aren't you in jail?

"The vast majority of regulation has little to do with making fraud illegal."

Based on, what, a percentage of bills passed in all governments nationwide? You make sweeping statements based on air. Some of what is government is based on the knowledge that people will cheat each other when there are lots of rewards and little risk for doing so.

That was my point about your vole-poop laden grain.

This current financial meltdown is based on lack of trust of the other parties in the transaction. In this case, the government regulating this market and regulating an exchange to trade these securities would go a long way to making people feel confident about trading with each other.
