It is a strange and wondrous place, well given to a protest but voting? rather like tejek pointed out. I lived there 11 years. Went to jail more than once protesting nuclear stuff, all involved. But I didn't once vote in all those years. But after Reagan won in '80, I was in a voting funk. But SF is a force to be mobilized if they realize their votes will matter enough. I sure would love to see it again. The sparkling city of San. And walk Castro street again, even if it is all fancied up now. And the Mission district. And Chinatown. And so on and so on. :)

Have no idea..shocking but not shocking either..I experienced this kind duality on many levels when I lived in the area...both times, 15 years apart...

When I lived in CA, my sense was they had a hard time getting serious about serious issues. I found that to be particularly true in SF. My company sent me up there to work for six months and all people wanted to do was party. There is nothing wrong with partying but there are times when you need to be serious.
