The legal question, as I see it: Can the voters through the initiative process enact the equivalent of a (state) constitutional amendment?

This will get very interesting. Maybe it will be ruled on that only the (State) legislature can do this (amending), and until that happens the Calif Supreme Ct decision stands.

PS. The California Supreme Court inferred a state constitutional right to marry to same sex couples---nothing explicit in there about that.
