Why are you against Fannie and Freddie being set up in the first place?

Because they distort the market for housing.

What would you have in their stead...nothing?

Yes, nothing. Well nothing from government.

Why?

Why? You need a why to have something not nothing. Also see above.

If you don't like Fannie and Freddie, why do you like the FDIC?

I didn't say I like the FDIC. You read in to posts too much. And saying that isn't a statement that I don't like them either.

Overall I think it has some bad effects, but the ability to largely prevent or at least limit bank runs is probably enough to make it worthwhile.

I'm not sure how much difference the $250k limit makes. Most people with $250k to put in the bank, probably either split it (so its all insured and even if it wasn't you don't have all of your bags in one basket), or put it in money markets or government bonds for higher yields, or invested it in other areas.

You keep asking me questions about what parts of government I support, how about you tell me what parts of government you don't support?

Surely there is some of the $6tril in spending and massive regulation that you find useless, or even counterproductive.

And please look to lasting parts of government. "The War in Iraq", is expensive but temporary, what government programs would you just get rid of? What regulation or legal mandate or prohibition strikes you as foolish?
