Aren't there plenty of Republicans who supported Obama whom we can feel the same way about, we respect their independence on this one issue but disagree with them on others? Aren't we, to a degree, chastising the Republicans who are doing the same thing to their own that supported Obama, like Buckley?

Good points, Neal. But the comparison is slightly dissimilar. If a sitting Rep senator, in fact, a former vice presidential candidate of that party, campaigned for Obama, I can assure you the Rep senatorial caucus would expel him/her forthwith (as the word goes).

Big apples and little apples.

The Democratic tent should be big enough to include him. It should be lonely in his corner of the tent but he should be allowed to be included. Isn't Obama saying that the country is big enough for everybody? Or is that just election speak to make us feel good about ourselves?

Add in no chairmanship, and that would be my attitude as well. People shouldn't be able to actually campaign for the other party's nominee like he did and not face any consequences.

Neal -

I, for one, am not challenging people like Buckley or any other Republican for supporting Obama. But they're not in Congress.

I agree that Lieberman should be stripped of his important committee chairmanship, and allowed to caucus with the Dems if he wants to. He might decide to jump ship, but if he does, he'll have even less clout as a Republican.

I don't see much of an issue in dealing with Lieberman. My conundrum is only in how to feel about him. I think I pretty much summed it up in my last post on the subject. ;-)

The Republicans in 2000 had him figured out..."Loserman".
