>> Historians: Bush presidency 'battered,' 'incompetent,' 'unlucky'

The good news is that George Bush's history won't be written by today's historians.

The history of Bush will be written years from now, much as Edmund Morris' history of Teddy Roosevelt was written only a few years ago. Morris' history of TR is devoid of political tilt, which has the effect of sorting out so many issues.

Bush will be remembered for having won the Iraq War, which could well result in a redefinition of the Middle East -- in our favor. While mistakes were made along the way, true historians comprehend that mistakes are made along the way in every war, and the ultimate success or failure is based on whether the desired objectives were accomplished -- which they will have been.

While today, they want to bash Bush for Katrina (and the early histories of Katrina have done so), the reality is that FEMA performed just about as well as it might have under the circumstances. The real problems were with Nagin and Blanco both of whom were gross incompetents, and in Blanco's case, more interested in retaining power over the National Guard troops than in solving the problem. While there was a great deal of human suffering between Tuesday and Thursday, with the total destruction of the communications infrastructure and highway system, history will understand the problem.

History has a way of sorting things out.

He is seen as pushing for an agenda to the right of the nation...

You know I'm extremely weary of the press telling me where I need to be in my thinking. What facts does this writer have to support this claim? Or, I have a thought, could Bush's unpopularity have anything to do with the daily negative scrutiny of him in the press for the last 8 years. I've told my wife to cancel our newspaper subscription, I'm done with this unethical group and their agenda. I want my agenda out there, and I don't think as a whole that it's all that unpopular even though I'm RIGHT of Bush.
