Still, even at my most ranting I would put that in the "somewhat TOO extreme" bucket.

Yes, that is why I suggested prison and confiscation rather than death, although some of them might actually prefer death to poverty and imprisonment.

But in Machiavelli's time, killing others with political or religious pretensions was apparently a more acceptable option, at least from the literature I have read from the period.
