Absolutely brilliant L3. Many a truth spoken in jest. I think your point completely reveals the central Myth behind Laissez Faire economics. That the self regulating market represents the Natural state of humankind, that we are nothing more than economic units, that the sum of our experience can be captured in commodification and commoditization, like counting sku #'s. For a theory that champions individuality, that’s a pretty radical contradiction. That society would subordinate itself to a self regulating market mechanism is a pretty recent idea. It emerged just as the enlightening West was dumping god, so a substitute had to be found and voila, LF, this was to be our Saviour from now on, a new almighty, a new holy one was born. The narrow view of humankind as an "economic entity", is static, outdated and does not accord with any reality that anyone has ever experienced. Homo economicus is on the endangered list. Vis-a-vis your point above, the yearning for Liberty as we know it in the US includes economic freedom and a whole lot more, it does not subordinate to economic freedom (which is what it seems to be doing in China ?). In reality, in the US, expansionary LF action, because it contains so much uncertainty, and people seek protection under such conditions, is inevitably going to be met by a reaction to limit it's scope, iow not everyone is going to buy into it. Given the socialcomplexityofourlives Laissez Faire in as much as it exists, is not a god given Natural state but will always be a result of political decision making.
