The issue is not some theoretical configuration that doesn't exist. It is real people - hundreds of thousands, possibly millions - who someday may want to marry after finding the person they want to spend the rest of their lives with - but can't because religious people want to foist their version of morality on them.

These religious people would be more honest if they just came out and said they wanted to make homosexuality illegal again. It makes no sense - and is not constitutional - to allow it to be legal but disallow them from marrying.
