Re: Ayn Rand and Eric Hoffer on Socialism: There is no difference between communism and socialism, except in the means of achieving the same ultimate end: communism proposes to enslave men by force, socialism—by vote. It is merely the difference between murder and suicide.
“Foreign Policy Drains U.S. of Main Weapon,”
Los Angeles Times, Sept. 9, 1962, G2

Eric Hoffer quotes:
The real "haves" are they who can acquire freedom, self-confidence, and even riches without depriving others of them. They acquire all of these by developing and applying their potentialities. On the other hand, the real "have nots" are they who cannot have aught except by depriving others of it. They can feel free only by diminishing the freedom of others, self-confident by spreading fear and dependence among others, and rich by making others poor.

We were in B&N today, reading some of Ayn Rand, including that piece and also the one below….

We are for sure getting our adult children “Atlas Shrugged”, and are considering getting the “True Believer” by Eric Hoffer for at least one of them, perhaps all ….

I had a business law professor who began his class one semester with almost that exact quote and it stuck with me all these years. He never attributed it but I now suppose he was a fan (or at lease a reader) of Ayn Rand.

And this is what The One wants to do. I thought we fought a war to end slavery once and for all?
