They had publicly trade stock, but I don't consider that enough to make them fully private companies since they where created by government, given an implicit guarantee, and given a specific mission by government.

A real private company could change what it did whenever it wanted without having to worry about not meeting a government set mission.

Why in the world would banning lobbyists be unconstitutional.

Against the 1st amendment. For two reasons. One more general freedom of speech reasons, also the more specific, "right to petition the government for a redress of grievances", which is exactly what lobbyists do.

Why in the world would public funding of campaigns be problematic and not effective.

Problematic - Do I have to fund an nazi party, or a communist party, or an Islamic jihad party with my tax dollars? If so that's problematic in itself. If not than your giving an advantage with federal dollars to some political groups of others. If its "any party that gets over X support in the polls", then your helping to entrench the current parties, and generally discriminating against smaller parties.

And even for mainstream parties, I don't want my tax dollars going to them, esp. the Democrats, but also the Republicans.

Not effective - Mainly because there is no way that it would be effective. Its almost like asking "why wouldn't sacrificing a chicken, end political corruption".

I'll tell you what you tell me why you think it would work and I'll respond.
