I don't think they've done anything which is what you get with divided government and that is what we have had with 51-49 dems to republicans. The system is setup to be a stalemate when that happens. Of course its still an implicit win, because at least Pelosi and Reid didn't allow EVEN MORE PORK in the form of the farm bills and drug plans and other mess that has bled us dry these 8 years.

Inhofe and Stevens, ALONE have blocked alt e legislation repeatedly, and they can because nothing goes through without them.

However, that is all about to change. We now have a one party majority, just like we had in the early part of this decade. in the early part of this decade, the republicans voted for tax cuts and massive, pork laden spending. In this dem majority there might be spending but it will not be the free wheeling pork kind like the medicare drug program or the farm bills that were huge ripoffs- we just don't have the money for that anymore.

What I am expecting out of this congress is:
- alt e, major investment, possibly a new grid
- healthcare - the biggie- single payer or some other major reform to thwart the 32 TRILLION DOLLAR liability that is coming with the current system if we leave as is.

We currently spend about 500 billion on healthcare for the small senior and vet population that we do insure. This amt of money in a well managed system is enough to insure our ENTIRE POPULATION, since most govts spend 7% or so of GDP on this. So in theory we should be able to do healthcare without some massive expenditure although there is some bootstrapping required. Maybe 500 billion the first year in addition to the 500 billion yearly cost? Not sure. To achieve this level of cost the Bush medicare drug program will have to be repealsed, COMPLETELY and drugs opened up to Canada and worldwide.
