Well, we are not bailing out the healthcare system are we ? They must be making money unlike the banks and the Automakers
I think the argument of having a Federal Health Care system is a weak one considering how Government handles Medicare and Medicaid. I would say the Government system of providing healthcare to it's soldiers is rather ghastly too.Not a great track record either way.

you are so right. I was shocked to learn that even Japan with an elderly population spends half their GDP on healthcare that we do, and they insure everybody!

And to top it off, the US govt *already* spends 3.5% of our GDP on healthcare for the sliver of the population we cover today! That amt, 500 million, is half of what everybody else pays IN TOTAL for their entire global coverage!

How can this happen? Well pretty easily actually. For one thing drugs that cost $300 here are $35 in Europe, oh but its so much "more safe" here. What a crock.

I agree. And I think we'll quickly conclude that the current non-system is no longer affordable, and we'll get a Canadian-style system, warts 'n all. And no one will be for it more than business, who will be relieved of this albatross once and for all (just ask Canadian businesses if they prefer employer-sponsored health care). I'm sure GM and F would take that in lieu of a bailout, actually (at least for awhile).
