So you think that Fannie and Freddie should have a mandate to shrink the housing market? Do you think they should get into the business of making cars or knitting sweaters? Maybe they should open a restaurant or lose big money in hedge funds.

What do you expect them to do? They used to be the safest of safest stocks. Under the casino mentality of Bush and the Republikan Money is God crowd, they went bust along with century old Lehman. What is wrong with Republikans and their inability to manage a checkbook? Why don't you go after loan officers, bank managements, real estate agents, mortgage brokers and real estate developers?

Again, you keep ignoring the fact that other PRIVATE companies got into the same trouble as Fannie and Freddie. You want to blame government for the problems of idiot, incompetent bankers. Why don't you blame the bankers and the insurance execs and the incompetence of Wall Street and global finances in general?

OK, so how about I pay you to go pretend there's a bomb on a plane. Is that illegal? I suspect that it is. Do you think that is ok? How about I pay you to yell fire in a crowded theater or tell someone you are going to commit bodily harm on them. Is that illegal?

How about I pay no money and someone who has an interest in a specific piece of legislation simply picks up the phone and calls their congressman. Who is making that illegal.

There is nothing in the Constitution about professional Lobbyists. Did you find something? Where? There is, again, nothing to prevent individuals from writing letters and complaining to any of their representatives or getting on a soapbox and complaining out loud.

There are many, many places and situations that restrict free speech. Try going to a library and talking about anything you like in as loud a voice as you like. Would your removal for disturbing the peace (ditto if you tried that on a residential street in the middle of the night) be unconstitutional? Would you have a course of action against the library?

So you must agree that Bush has repeatedly violated the 1st amendment by limiting free speech away from his podium and sequestering it a couple of miles away in designated 'free speech' zones. So you are saying that Bush has clearly broken the law and should be indicted and jailed.

Then it is also unconstitutional for the government to limit individual and corporate contributions to campaigns. It is also unconstitutional to limit giving government officials vacations in nice places since that is where lobbyists would petition the government for redress of grievances.

Why is yelling fire in a crowded building NOT abridging the freedom of speech?

No, Lobbyist is a paid profession that is regulated by the government. Lobbying is something you can do with your spouse or your congress person.
