That is about as far removed from the truth as is possible. Spitzer was "taken down" for his being oblivious to his own hypocrisy. As Attorney General he busted the same type of prostitution rings he solicited. Jailing and fining people for the very same things he did is corruption.

Many Wall Street people were pleased with the corrupt bastard going down, but they weren't behind it. Spitzer managed that all by himself. If he was a precinct captain he would have went to jail and lost his pension. Since he is a politician in New York, he just lost his position.

they took spitzer down because he used all these grey area business rules to take down some pretty decent businesspeople like AIGs Greenberg.
