Well, part of the problem. Most of the problem comes from us just being there. The Afghans buried the Russians (with our help, of course, but still...)- and we aren't ever going to "win" anything in the traditional sense of the word. What we need to do is 1. decriminalize opium and use it medically as the high quality drug it is and 2. let the Afghans make a living at their poppy farming, but take the criminal profits out via #1 (profits which terrorists and Taliban are using to further their criminal enterprises) and 3. find a way to GET THE HELL OUT.
