Gold is an efficient store of value but other things work too. Things which are consumed are the best because they have a cost hedge when bought at lower prices. Heating oil can be stored in large quantities and even used to power diesel vehicles. Some food can be stored for long periods. Property is useful because it is a hedge against high property prices. One property per child, bought during cyclical lows, will give each a good start on the property ladder. Or maybe just REIT shares? Or shares in general? Think about it.
