Actually, I didn't mean to pick on that Civic - or even the SUV. My only point was that they both are heavily subsidized and have hidden costs. And we need to be aware of those costs (both short term and long term) to form a realistic policy. I agree with you that the notion of simply tossing out the car/oil culture for alt-e or the Volt or whatever is a fantasy. Particularly by "government mandate". But we do need enlightened and pragmatic leadership to get us started down the road. This is the work of decades, so we'd better get started now.
