OT: I made a mistake on my prior post, in that is takes about 8 weeks to get someone off methadone and often the same for opiate addiction. For those who think methadone is just for heroin addicts, it is now routinely used in treating opiate addiction, which is like using a sledgehammer, when a small hammer would do.

Re: Xanax It can take two years to get off Xanax as it is only done with a tapered dose, in tiny amounts. Valium is much easier to get off, which would surprise those who have become hooked on Xanax. MP

I happen to know the author of benzo.org.uk personally and am good personal friend of Heather Ashton, the worlds foremost expert on benzos and author of many papers on the subject including the now world famous "Ashton Manual"
benzo.org.uk now in 8 different languages.
I created this graphic and am the person responsible for this manual in general as I convinced Heather to make her research into a manual in the first place.

ANYTHING and EVERYTHING you need to know in order to help people with benzo problems is on this site. If it isn't it does NOT exist.

I know lots of people who have and had problems with benzos and can tell you that they are 10 times harder to get off of....if you have a problem with them as does about 15% of the people who try to withdraw from them. For unknown reasons a larger percentage don't have too rough a time. The ones who have the worst time are those who fall into the hands of detox doctors that treat them as addicts when most people who took them on a doctors advise are NOT addicts at all no matter how long they were taking them for. 12 steps are completely and totally useless for those with iatrogenic dependencies
