Mohan: thanks for your long response-I have to read it over a few more times and go through all the links(which should only take until next earnings are out -gg-)-but I appreciate your views and thank you for your response(I'm repeating myself, aren't i?). I always like to get a broad view of opinions on any subject, allowing me to have a better understanding of the topic and to make thoughtful decisions. But I also act on gut instinct sometimes in this market.

Mohan,
Thanks for the report and links about SEMI equipment manufactures.
I have a couple of points:
1) I am of the impression that all the Memory makers slowed down to control the price erosion and hence reduce the production. This should
help in stabilizing the price.
2) I have been reading about AMAT (in AMAT thread) that it is investing a lot of money in building a new office in Austin and have been hiring people (close to 2000).
If the management foresees a trun in demand cycle should n't they
stop worrying about it?

Mohan,
Thank you for your contribution regarding semiconductor companies. It was a very thorough and well supported assessment. Unless I missed it, there is one element you did not directly address--the impact of new technology on competition. If the technology for a new generation of chips is developed by semiconductor equipment makers, how can the semiconductor companies afford not to buy it? If my competitors can gain a market advantage by adopting new technology, how can I not adopt it as well. If I adopt it first, I may gain market share. How important to you feel technological advancement is in the fortunes of the semiconductor equipment makers and semiconductor companies. If you feel it is significant, what are the near-, mid-, and long-term implications for semiconductor equipment makers semiconductor companies?
