Doesn't exactly apply to the whole state, but CALPERS is also in big trouble.

I read an article claiming that prior to this market downturn, CALPERS was funded to 90% of its liabilities...not disastrous. The latest market decline has cost the pension fund $50B...so that's the risk of investing pension funds in the stock market i suppose.

If you wanted a good pension Ten, you could have worked for the state. A friend of mine did that in Texas, despite offers from me to triple his pay in private high tech industry. Just look at it as deferred compensation.
