I believe its because of future uncertainty and a low projected growth rate. Many people believe Intel will eventually start putting sound cards on their motherboards, hence coming with the system. Cyrix did this a while back, but I don't think Cyrix poses much of a threat. If Intel tried something like this though, it could be a major threat.
