Sadly all sorts of Companies have put greed above Country, and the CEO's are the greediest people of all. Coming home from Tahoe last Saturday we heard about how the Sand's Corp was hurting with Casino profits down and hotels that weren't being filled. On 60 Minutes last night the CEO of Sand's was said to be worth $29 billion, and at roughly a million dollars a trip he was flying Iraq veterans to the Venetian and hosting them to a fabulous vacation. I don't know how much of that $29 billion is Sands stock, I later heard he's hurting, but regardless, the fact that a CEO could take $29 billion out of a company, even if largely in stock, should tell you something's wrong. They flew the soldiers in one of his 747's, the interior looked like it was out of the Taj Mahal, he has something like 19 personel aircraft of which I believe a few are 747's. This may be one of the more flagrant abuses by CEO's, but many are taking compensation that's outrageous and simultaneously laying off all sorts of American Workers and building new modern plants elsewhere. Certainly labor may be cheaper elsewhere, but with much of sales in the U.S. the profit gain is marginal at best, the companies say we aren't competitive, but it's only true when Americans are forced to work with antiquated equipment, while the newest, most modern plants are built elsewhere. In our family we have a Subaru and Toyota that are both built in the U.S. Both these cars are every bit as good as what's being produced in Japan, and both are produced at competitive prices, the difference between them and GM is that they built new modern facilities to build the cars with American workers.
