To all,
MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 22, 1997--

At DataStorage97 Forum, the 70 GB Quantum tape drive tied for first

place in the outstanding new product category

Quantum Corporation (NMS:QNTM) today announced that the company's DLT(TM) 7000 tape drive,
featuring 70 gigabytes (GB) capacity, was voted this year's most significant product introduction at the
DataStorage97 Forum, held September 15 to 17 in San Jose, California.

The Quantum tape drive tied for first place in the "Outstanding New Product" category. The votes were cast
by nearly 400 senior executives from manufacturers of magnetic disk, optical disk, and tape storage products,
and by industry suppliers, software developers, major computer manufacturers, and investors who attended
the three-day event.

Win reflects DLT performance, reliability, scalability

The most recent offering in Quantum's DLT tape drive family, the DLT 7000 is the industry's first 70 GB
(compressed) capacity tape drive designed specifically for the mid-range server marketplace. According to
Brodie Keast, vice president and general manager of Quantum's DLT Division, industry leaders' recognition
of the DLT 7000 at DataStorage97 reflects both the importance of the mid-range segment for data storage
providers, and the Quantum drive's ability to meet the stringent backup requirements of this thriving arena.

"With the move to intranet computing picking up speed and content-rich, mission-critical data increasingly
residing on enterprise servers, companies have a pressing need for a server backup solution that delivers the
most compelling balance of performance, reliability, and scalability," Keast said.

Keast noted that the DLT 7000 delivers the requisite performance and reliability by featuring a sustained data
transfer rate of up to 10 megabytes per second, a head life of 30,000 hours, media durability of one million
tape passes, and an overall Mean Time Between Failure rating of 300,000 hours at a 20 percent duty cycle.
Quantum DLT technology also fulfills the crucial scalability requirement by providing multiple solutions for
continuous performance and capacity improvements, in addition to backward compatibility with legacy DLT
tape drives.
