"Certainly it is true that educated people can do a great deal more harm than uneducated people..."

I'm not sure morons carrying stupid formulas would be any better. So while nerds with esoteric formulas can certainly be a problem, I'm not sure the ignorant are the answer.

I agree we are ambivalent about education, but I think when it really counts, if we think about it, no one wants an ignorant dentist or doctor, nurse or mechanic. We value education, but some of us just don't know we do. I wouldn't want an undersea welder who was uneducated any more than I want the scientist running cancer experiments to be at the bottom of his class. I value all sorts of education- though I do think your education needs to be related to your field of study. Thus being an intellectual economist might not mean you understand politics, or being a crack mechanic probably doesn't translate in to being a heart surgeon on the side.

I think very few people (if anyone) thinks intellectuals can't be wrong. Ignorant people, who have no grasp of history or contemporary events, would be the only people who could possibly believe that- and that proves my point. No matter how limited your brain, it can probably be improved by education. Stupidity is never enhanced by ignorance.
