So you now admit that Fannie and Freddie were not the entire cause of the problem and that private corporations are just as involved in the whole mess. You also admit that they shouldn't be discouraging the growth of home ownership. You want the government to just be neutral? Don't you want the government to encourage capital expenditures and the creation of new businesses? Why is one ok and not the other? Or, do you believe that government shouldn't do anything at all with the economy?

Since Fannie and Freddie and BS and Lehman and AIG are all in this mess, what does it matter if some were originally designated as government institutions? Do you actually think that people thought the government would let AIG fail? Wall Street was shocked that they let Lehman fail and plenty of people were arguing against bailing out Fannie and Freddie.

It is the SIZE of the organization and the FEAR that letting them go would caues big problems in the economy that causes the government to bail them out. They are all entirely too big and took way too many risks without understanding what the heck they were doing.

That is a failure of management on all levels both government and private.
