I agree with the general thesis that even intellectuals are subject to group think.

However, Obama is known for the way he manages conflict and meetings to arrive at a decision. It is well documented that he takes the approach of inviting conflicting opinions to debate each other with him facilitating the debate to tease out all the issues. He then goes off and weighs the facts to make a decision. His colleagues have been particularly impressed with his ability to drive meetings, because many of them have said they come away feeling like they all have been heard and that he sides with them, until he makes his decision.

Now, contrast that with the similarly well-documented way Bush makes decisions. He is known to make gut-instinct snap decisions and then solicit advise from his own inner circle of like-minded people. He thinks debate and dissenting opinions are obstructions to overcome, rather than input that needs to be heard. Bush also is notoriously lax in reading newspapers and keeping up with world events in the media, whereas, Obama is hyper-literate.

Those two styles are world's apart. Needless to say, Obama's style is hands-down superior. Let's hope he can use those skills successfully as President.
